Someone created a virtual calculator using the level creation tools in the Little Big Planet beta. Just wait until the camera pans up...

I'm excited about the possibilities in level design with LBP. This is astounding work. Here's hoping that brilliance and hard work like this will come to the fore and the myriad detritus doesn't ruin the experience.

Look, this is pretty cool, and shows, well, a lot of free time and a mathematical/science brain. Good on them for doing it, and good on the game engine for being able to be used in this way.

BUT

Is anyone else completely and UTTERLY sick of Little Big Planet news? I mean GAWD it's been going on and on and on.

I truly think that people will have these initial flurries of excitement with it, and go and make a bunch of things and be all amazed, and then a couple of months down the track everyone will be bored silly with it apart from a few obsessives who will continue to create insane things for years to come.

The majority of people though will give a great big 'meh' after a short period of 'oooh'

I hear what you're saying, spoco2. I have a beta key, I haven't played a lot yet, but my first impressions are that the professionally built stuff is really nice, but a lot of the user created stuff is just thrown together and kinda lame. Some of it's fun, some of it (like the computer) is ingenious, but most is meh. They have a "Hearted" system that essentially works like the Sift to bring popular stuff to the front. Dag should sue.

^yes i am sure dag has the patent on "activating a button to express a preference" and "organising button activation into tabulated output".

about this thing, i thought it was pretty cool before it panned up, because i thought the level designer was using some kind of scripty stuff in it and that would be a cool simple demo that could be taken further. but then i saw the wiring and i just thought zomg, that's just... sad. like making a car out of bottlecaps. upvote for sheer... geek.

^spoco2:

Spoco, I'm not so sure - my best comparison for this title is Garry's Mod for Half-Life 2, and look at what's been done with that. The community is still pretty strong after a lot of work has been done.

There's just something about playing with rudimentary physics-based gameplay in complementary, multiplayer ways, I guess.

That must have taken forever to make. I think I'll stick to making my Little Big Planet virtual abacus.

So the wiring he pans up and down on is actually controlling the calculator? Shit!
