More Faux Rage from Ann Coulter

bmacs27 says...

Are you implying I drive a Harley? Otherwise I'd prefer you call me queer, son. Virginia Tech was the most deadly shooting in US history. He used pistols with standard clip sizes. There are also these things called bombs, should we ban fertilizer?

Please define tragedy. Statistically speaking, tragedies of these sorts are prevented by doing absolutely nothing at all. Statistically speaking... they don't happen. It's a couple of sad things that happened and everything, but it doesn't compare to actual problems, you know... like accidents.

Don't call me son, faggot. I'm talking about tragedies like Sandy Hook and Aurora. Not assault rifles means a lot less people getting killed. Statistics only makes sense in a context, and our assault weapons ban was useless because it wasn't enforced at all. What I call owning a death machine you call Liberty, good for you.

You're a liberal in the sense that Obama is a liberal.

Demand A Plan to End Gun Violence

I bet you if you ask these airhead celebs to stop using bodyguards that carried guns they'd laugh in your face. And I know Beyonce's guards carry pistols since I worked stage security at one of her concerts in Atlanta couple times.

I own 2 assault rifles, and I'll be dead before they are taken away.

Joe Scarborough finally gets it -- Sandy Hook brings it home

RedSky says...

Nope. I think all forms of regulation will have little to no effect given how widespread guns are. As I said, there will be no improvement in this lifetime for the US and people need to accept it.

Even in the impossible scenario that guns were largely banned nationwide and a generous guns for cash scheme was put in place, which is what has happened in some other countries, it would take decades for any meaningful effect to be felt.

Which is why my original post said that if you are genuinely concerned about this, there is no alternative to emigrating.

The issue is not Newtown, Virginia Tech, Collumbine or any freak killsprees of any of the deranged people you mentioned. The issue is the steady but reliably high murder rate enabled by the high supply of guns in the market.

These public incidents have done little to nothing more than giving pundits and casual observers an excuse to get high on their own cathartic tear gushing.

So you're saying that banning all firearms in the USA will decrease the murder rate?
You'll still have a huge black market firearms (which are easy to make from tools from Harbor Freight in your Garage), see Assault Shovel:
http://www.northeastshooters.com/vbulletin/threads/179192-DIY-Shovel-AK-photo-tsunami-warning

Also 2 of the biggest homicides in the USA were done with no guns at all, see Timothy McVay and Andrew Kehoe.

I'm not a gun advocate at all, but just banning firearms won't "fix" the problem of rampage killers or lower the homicide rate.

Glass staircase not dress friendly (men don't agree)

sineral says...

This is retarded. They have stairs like that on the Virginia Tech campus, and nobody has ever complained that I know of. The only way anybody would see more than just calf is if they were standing directly under the stairs, which would be obvious. Even if somebody was under the stairs they'd see no more than if the woman was wearing a bathing suit. And the problem is trivially fixed by placing a couple potted plants under the stairs so people can't walk under it. Why is this on the news?

Your argument seems confused to me sir. Access to guns = Killings at school?
You are right though, same 'pattern' can be observed here. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/sep/23/finland.schoolsworldwide .
IMO only certain trained professionals (+psych eval) absolutely require, and therefore, should have access to non-sporting guns, thats it. If you want to have access to guns designed to kill people (alot, quickly, efficiently), and defend your fellow countryman, become a trained professional. >> ^Buck:

"In 2007, a deranged student killed 32 people at Virginia Tech -- 30 of them in a very short period of time in one building. He didn't need high-capacity magazines because he had two guns and reloaded.
There was no one to stop him.
School shootings that have been halted were almost always stopped by the happenstance of an armed citizen on school property.
In 2002, an immigrant in Virginia started shooting his classmates at the Appalachian Law School in Grundy. Two of his classmates retrieved guns from their cars, forcing the killer to drop his weapon and allowing a third classmate to tackle him.
Thrre dead.
In Santee, Calif., in 2001, when a student began shooting his classmates, the school activated its "safe school plan" -- as the principal later told CNN -- by sending a "trained campus supervisor" to stop the killer.
Possibly not realizing that he was in a gun-free zone, the killer responded by shooting the trained campus supervisor three times. Fortunately, an armed off-duty San Diego policeman happened to be bringing his daughter to school that day. With a gun, he stopped the killer and held him at bay until more police could arrive.
Two dead.
In 1997, a student at Pearl High School in Pearl, Miss., had already shot several people at his high school and was headed for the junior high school when assistant principal Joel Myrick retrieved a .45 pistol from his car and pointed it at the gunman's head, ending the slaughter.
Two dead.
In 1998, a student attending a junior high school dance at a restaurant in Edinboro, Pa., started shooting, whereupon the restaurant owner pulled out his shotgun, chased the gunman from the restaurant and captured him for the police.
One dead.
See the pattern?"

"Letter writer Barry Ruhl is concerned about a new gun law being proposed in Florida. The changes would bring Florida's laws in line with Utah's. Both require a permit to carry a concealed handgun, but in Utah open-carry is also allowed. It would also allow non-felons to carry in all public places including schools. Ruhl fears that this will degrade public safety.
I would like to point out that Utah's murder rate is just 1.3 per 100,000 and it has never had a school shooting. When Utah enacted its handgun carry laws in 1995, its murder rate was 3.9, three times higher than it is today. Canada's murder rate is 1.8.
In each and every state that has passed a handgun carry law, all rates of crime have dropped immediately and significantly."

Flying Snakes (Paradise Tree Snake)

AmandaF says...

For many individuals, like Indiana Jones, snakes are crawling creatures of nightmare. What do the afraid do with flying snakes, then? Hand them over to the "Flying snakes fascinate DARPA" Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency for research. You will find flying snakes in southeast Asia. The Chrysopelea ornata (ornate flying snake) might just have armed service application. The tree-dwelling serpent typically grows 2 to three feet long and can glide long distances. Based on the Washington Post, it's this gliding ability that has prompted Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency to throw money at Virginia Tech so that scientists can decode this secret of nature.

Is This Change?

brain says...

I agree with the basic message of this video, that change will not happen as long as we keep electing democrats and republicans.

However, Alex Jones is an insane nut that should be ignored. He's worse than Glenn Beck. He actually believes that the government is worshiping horned pagan gods and working directly with Satan. He thinks 911 is an inside job. He even thinks the Virginia Tech shootings were a government black-ops mind control experiment.

Obama Moves To Legalize Warrantless Wiretapping!

brain says...

Alex Jones is also a fucking nut. For example, I listened to his radio show after the Virginia Tech shooting. Apparently it was completely obvious that the shooter was a government black-ops mind control experiment. Global warming is a scam. Oh yeah, and all of our political leaders literally worship Satan.

While I guess it's possible that Alex Jones could stumble upon truth, it's probably just coincidental. Since he thinks everything is an evil conspiracy, any time there actually exists one, he'll be right.

>> ^budzos:
The Wanted graphic novel is fantastic, if a bit nihilistic even for my tastes. It could just as rightly be titled "Wanton". There`s even less heroism than the movie, none of this "kill one to save a thousand" rationalization. The story is brilliant if you've read enough comic books to absorb all the meta stuff. Wanted has a permanent spot on my "public" comic book shelf, a few spots down from The Watchmen.

"nihilisitc" and "less heroism"? That's all you have to say about the comic? The characters in the comic are homicidal psychopaths! James Mcavoy's character rapes women and then murders them, for fun. One of his first actions after getting his powers is to go on a killing spree of every one who has ever wronged him. It's a fucked up work of antisocial adolescent fantasy, the kind of work you'd expect from the imagination of the colombine murderers or the virginia tech gunman.

There may be some interesting ideas thrown in, but that does not save the series from the weak plot and all the gratuitious sex and violence. It's no where near the level of great graphic novels like the watchmen.
